This week Baby Shoe weighs just over one pound and is nearly one foot long--about the length of an ear of corn. His or her lungs have started secreting surfactant, a substance that will help its air sacs inflate once Baby Shoe hits the outside world; and he or she is practicing breathing. The baby's brain is also growing quickly now, and his/her taste buds are continuing to develop. Baby Shoe's eyes are also watching for light and its ears are listening to my heart beat and my stomach growl (which it does not do much of because I am always snacking!).
